Like you, I was shocked to learn of the Las Vegas shooting this week. On Monday, innocent concert-goers in Las Vegas became victims of a tragic attack. My heart goes out to all those affected. I pray for comfort, understanding, and for peace in our world. As we learn more details about this horrific attack, this is not something that should be politicized. We should and will continue to look at it carefully.

This week the House passed A Balanced Budget for a Stronger America, our budget for the upcoming year. It’s a fiscally conservative plan to use taxpayer dollars in a responsible way. This budget balances in 10 years and will help make America stronger and more prosperous. But the biggest thing the budget does is it gives us the ability to make tax reform a reality, allowing Washington to act on this crucial issue for the first time in 30 years. Now that our budget has passed the House, the Senate will pass a budget and Congress can work on meaningful tax reform that will provide relief for American families, allow U.S. businesses to level the playing field, and grow our economy. I've been working hard with my Ways & Means colleagues, attending meetings with White House officials and hearing from local business owners about what should be included in tax reform. I'll continue to do so to uplift everyone in the Grand Strand and Pee Dee and to restore opportunity for future generations. Read More »

Micah's Law |

Did you know that the United States is only one of seven countries in the world that allows abortions after the 20-week mark? Other countries include China and North Korea. Scientific research and discovery has found that unborn children at just 20 weeks post-fertilization have a well-developed brain and nervous system, meaning they can feel pain. This week the House also took action to protect the lives of the unborn by passing The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, legislation that restricts abortions 20 weeks or more post-fertilization. Named after a little boy named Micah who was born premature at 20 weeks but is now thriving, it also includes protects for women to protect the unborn and mothers alike. Read More »

This week after the shooting in Las Vegas, many came out in Myrtle Beach for a memorial to honor the lives lost in Las Vegas. Memorial-goers held a 59 second moment of silence for the 59 victims, prayed and sang “God Bless America.” Many in our area and across the country also flocked to blood donation centers to give blood to help the hundreds of victims who were admitted to hospitals for wounds from the shooting. If there is any silver lining after a tragedy like this in our country, it is how Americans come together to uplift, support, and encourage one another.
