WASHINGTON, D.C.— Congressman Tom Rice (SC-07) released the following statement in regards to the election of Paul Ryan (WI-1) as Speaker of the House:
“Today marks a new beginning for our Conference, the House and our country. The House of Representatives made an important step forward by electing Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House. I believe that Paul is the right leader at the right time.
“Paul understands the need to transform government, work across the aisle, and restore order in the House. In his remarks to Congress today, he explained his vision for our future, stating, ‘We need to let every member contribute – not once they have earned their stripes, but right now.’ He went on to say, ‘We will not duck the tough issues. We will take them head on. We are going to do all we can so working people get their strength back and people not working get their lives back. No more favors for the few. Opportunity for all—that is our motto.’
“I am optimistic that Paul will make significant, positive changes to the legislative process and the way we handle the people’s business. The American people have every reason to be hopeful that he will make the tough decisions necessary to strengthen our great nation.
“I am eager to work with Speaker Ryan to make meaningful changes and create bold solutions to move our country forward.”
