Washington, D.C.— Rep. Tom Rice (SC-07) issued the following statement today regarding the House passage of H.R. 2216 , the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act of 2014:

“Our veterans and military members made a promise to protect our country and in return our country promised to provide for them.  This legislation ensures that our government makes good on its promise to our veterans and continues to support our military operations, all while enacting spending reductions that do not affect readiness or effectiveness.  This bill also addresses the unacceptable backlogs that our veterans have been facing for years.

“Like many districts across the country, veterans in South Carolina’s 7th District are burdened by the embarrassing backlog in veterans benefit claims.  In this bipartisan legislation, my colleagues and I allotted additional funding to address this issue and streamline the claims process, so the government can provide our veterans with the  benefits they bravely earned.”

H.R. 2216 passed the U.S. House of Representatives with a bipartisan vote of 421-4.
