Washington, DC—Rep. Tom Rice (SC-07) voted today in favor of the SKILLS Act. This legislation streamlines 35 ineffective and duplicative programs, including 27 identified in a 2011 report by the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office.
“The passage of the SKILLS Act today is a victory for our job seekers and job creators,” said Rice. “I came to Washington to cut government waste, strengthen our work force, and provide the millions of unemployed and underemployed Americans with more job opportunities. This legislation accomplishes all three of these goals—it eliminates duplicative programs, provides job seekers with a worker-friendly job training system, and empowers governors to streamline programs at the state level. I urge the Senate to act on this legislation and in best interests of the millions of hardworking people in our nation who are looking to better themselves, their career, and their future.”
