Washington, D.C.— Rep. Tom Rice (SC-07) announced today that John Sweeney of Florence, South Carolina will join his staff as the Pee Dee Regional Representative for the 7th Congressional District.  Sweeney currently works as a political reporter for the Morning News and PeeDeePolitics.com and will join Rep. Rice’s staff on June 23, 2013.

"I am excited to have John join our team," said Rice. "It has always been my goal to create a team that knows our district and genuinely cares about improving the lives of everyone in the 7th District.  John frequently writes about many of the issues and obstacles encountered by residents in the 7th District, and I am glad he will be in a position to provide excellent constituent service throughout the Pee Dee." 

“I am very excited to be joining Congressman Rice’s team and look forward to helping the people and communities of South Carolina’s 7th Congressional District,” Sweeney said. “I have been fortunate to work with some great people during my four years with the Morning News and I am looking forward to continuing those relationships and forming new ones in this new capacity.”

Sweeney is a graduate of Francis Marion University with a degree in Mass Communications.  He began his journalism career in Hemingway, South Carolina as editor of the Weekly Observer newspaper, a weekly affiliate of the Morning News and Carolina Publishing.  In 2011, he was promoted to political reporter for the Morning News in Florence, and earlier this year helped launch Pee Dee Poltics.com, the political arm of the paper’s online presence, SCNow.com.

The Pee Dee Regional Representative is responsible for constituent service and outreach in the Pee Dee Region of the 7th Congressional District.  A key part of outreach and constituent service is to provide access via mobile office hours throughout the Pee Dee.  Please view the office information pages to view Rep.
