Congressman Rice Statement on End of Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON – Senate Democrats felt their political interests were best served by forcing a government shutdown, only to vote on a nearly identical bill three days later. This caused unnecessary stress for American families and our military. Tonight, I voted again to fund the government, pay our troops, and provide health insurance for the 14,400 children in my district enrolled in CHIP. Short-term continuing resolutions are no way to run a business, much less the federal government. The House has passed several bills that appropriate spending for the rest of the fiscal year. I hope the Senate gets to work on approving these bills so that that we can turn our full attention to other critical issues facing our country such as immigration and entitlement reform.
