SOUTH CAROLNIA – As part of his ongoing effort to combat the opioid crisis, Congressman Rice today announced facilities across South Carolina’s Seventh District that will serve as drug disposal sites on National Prescription Drug Takeback Day. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, hosted by the DEA twice a year, will be this Saturday, April 28th. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day provides a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of excess prescription drugs, while also providing an opportunity to raise awareness of the opioid crisis and to educate our friends, family members, and neighbors about the potential for abuse of medications.

“The opioid crisis knows no boundaries and we need a comprehensive approach to fight the epidemic that is devastating communities across the nation and in South Carolina. At the federal level, we have passed legislation to fund treatment and education programs to fight addiction, but this problem cannot be solved solely from Washington. Local efforts that engage law enforcement, medical professionals, community members, and recovering addicts will help raise awareness about drug abuse and facilitate a collaborative effort in the fight against addiction” said Congressman Rice. “In South Carolina, more people die from drug overdoses than traffic accidents, and disposing of excess prescription drugs is a simple way to prevent drug abuse in our community. As part of my ongoing effort to combat the opioid crisis, I want to make sure you are aware of this opportunity to help end this epidemic.”

In addition to facilities that regularly operate disposal sites, the below locations in the Seventh District will be available for people to dispose of prescription drugs from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM Saturday, April 28th. You can visit: to find the closest facility to you:
