South Carolina– As part of his ongoing effort to combat the opioid crisis, Congressman Rice today announced facilities across South Carolina’s Seventh District that will serve as drug disposal sites on National Prescription Drug Takeback Day. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, hosted by the DEA twice a year, will be this Saturday, April 27th. National Prescription Drug Take Back Day provides a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of excess prescription drugs, while also providing an opportunity to raise awareness of the opioid crisis and to educate our friends, family members, and neighbors about the potential for abuse of medications.
“The opioid epidemic claims 100 American lives every day and in South Carolina more people die from drug overdoses than car accidents. I am proud of the legislative action Congress has taken to address this crisis, but this battle can’t be fought solely from Washington. We need coordinated engagement from local law enforcement, lawmakers, medical professionals, and members of the community to end this scourge. Disposing excess prescription drugs is a simple way to prevent drug abuse in our community. As part of my ongoing effort to combat the opioid crisis, I want to make sure you are aware of this opportunity to help end this epidemic.”
Congressman Rice introduced the Efficient Drug Disposal Act in the 115th Congress to support law enforcement’s critical role in drug takeback events. Read more about this legislation here.
