WASHINGTON, D.C.- Today, Congressman Tom Rice (SC-07) released the following statement regarding the closure of ArcelorMittal:
"For almost 50 years, the Georgetown steel mill has played a large roll in our community. Citing cheap illegal foreign imports, ArcelorMittal has decided to close its doors. As a result, more than 220 skilled employees will be without jobs. Closures like this prove that enforceable trade standards are vital to American jobs and our ability to compete in the world. It is never a good day when an American business is forced to suspend operations. I will continue to fight to make our country competitive and work with all of our Seventh District counties for fair trade and to encourage growth in the manufacturing sector."
