Congressman Rice Sends Letter to U.S. Attorney General Urging for Special Counsel to be Appointed in Hunter Biden Investigation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Congressman Tom Rice (R-SC) and 94 of his colleagues sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland urging him to appoint a Special Counsel for the investigation into Hunter Biden and his foreign business dealings.

It is increasingly clear that Hunter Biden took advantage of his father’s position as Vice President to gain wealth and influence in foreign countries, using questionably sourced money to pay tax liabilities, and lobbying on behalf of foreign entities without proceeding through the proper channels.

It is a great concern to everyone who signed this letter that in the case of Hunter Biden, the Department of Justice has a conflict of interest that could prevent a fair and impartial investigation of his activities.

“The United States Department of Justice has a duty to the American people to fairly pursue the case against Hunter Biden for his involvement with China and other corrupt foreign governments,” said Congressman Rice. “It is long past time for an appointment of Special Counsel to investigate the Biden family’s influence peddling. The Trump Administration endured closer scrutiny during the baseless Steele Dossier on the standard that a Special Counsel was necessary due to the DOJ not being able to impartially investigate a sitting President. The same standard applies here.”
