Brings Recent Disaster Relief Awards in the 7th District to $26.7 Million 

WASHINGTON – Congressman Tom Rice (R-S.C.) today announced The South Carolina Office of Resilience’s (SCOR) Disaster Recovery Office (DRO) distributed $2,477,680 in federal disaster relief funds to South Carolina’s 7th District. 

“I’m pleased to see the federal disaster relief funds allocated after Hurricane Matthew and the 2015 Floods continue to go out the door to the 7th District. Our district becomes improved and better prepared for future disasters because of investments like these,” said Congressman Tom Rice. “I was proud to help secure $162 million from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and I thank the state for working diligently to manage and distribute these funds to South Carolina’s communities.”

Buyouts for Repetitive Loss Properties in the 7th District:

  • Town of Cheraw (Chesterfield County) - $1,747,680

Mitigation Funds Match awards to leverage funding opportunities in the 7th District:

  • Francis Marion (Florence County) - $175,000 for critical infrastructure improvements

Mitigation Plans and Studies Projects to identify flood risks and feasible mitigation solutions in the 7th District:

  • City of Conway (Horry County) - $305,000 for a Stormwater Master Plan
  • City of Florence (Florence County) - $250,000 for a Stormwater Master Plan

These funds are awarded from a $162 million U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant for mitigation funding for Hurricane Matthew and the 2015 Floods in South Carolina. To date, $46.9 million has been awarded in South Carolina, including $26,676,428 inthe 7th District.

On March 9, 2021, The South Carolina Office of Resilience’s (SCOR) Disaster Recovery Office (DRO) Steering Committee approved the first tranche of disaster funding. Congressman Rice announced $23 million of this tranche was approved for stormwater infrastructure, drainage, and buyouts in the 7th District. Read the release here.
