Home of the Free

As Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer, it is important to reflect on the true meaning of this holiday and what it is actually about- the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives for our country. Throughout America’s history, our troops have bravely answered the call of duty and worked to make the world a better place. I was honored to spend part of this weekend with veterans and their families at the Myrtle Beach Veterans Center Open House and hear about their experiences serving our nation.

The sacrifice of soldiers past and present is what makes America the greatest nation on Earth, and as Elmer Davis once said, "This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave."

Beach Renourishment Fully Funded

Beaches along the Grand Strand have suffered from recent natural disasters. This funding will keep our beautiful beaches prosperous and support our tourism industry!

Vote Notes: Big Wins This Week

It was a busy week in Washington- House Republicans passed major legislation on behalf of our military, veterans, taxpayers and community banks, and terminally ill patients.

We kept a promise to our military by passing the National Defense Authorization Act, which provides our military the training, equipment and support they need to be ready for any threat they may face. It also gives our troops a well-deserved pay raise! We continued our work to improve the lives of veterans by passing legislation that makes meaningful reforms to the Department of Veterans Affairs and ensures they have access to the quality care they have earned. We repealed a substantial portion of Dodd-Frank, easing regulations on community banks that provide credit to hard working small businesses and taxpayers. We also passed Right-to-Try legislation, which gives terminally ill patients the chance to find a cure for their disease by improving access to experimental treatments. This legislation provides hope for patients and their families, and I am happy to say it is on the way to President Trump for his signature!

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs!

Republicans have worked hard to get economies across the country going again, and it is exciting to see how pro-growth polices are creating new opportunities in the Seventh District! This week, Marion County announced that their unemployment rate in April reached the lowest level in 30 years! l Additionally, Sunstrand, LLC announced they are opening their doors in Florence, creating 42 new jobs through an $8.4 million capital investment.
