Leading the Fight

Leading the Fight for Federal Disaster Relief

I led my colleagues in a letter to House and Senate leadership urging the swift consideration and passage of a disaster supplemental appropriations measure.

Americans impacted by last year’s natural disasters are being used as pawns in a political game and House leadership has held disaster funding hostage in the last two spending bills. It is unacceptable that they have put the millions of Americans still struggling after last year’s natural disasters on the back burner. Meanwhile, I’m hearing from South Carolina farmers who are worried about going out of business. I'm hearing from families who need certainty and support. My constituents have suffered enough and shouldn’t have to wait any longer for disaster relief. I will continue to lead the fight to ensure South Carolinians have the resources we need for a strong recovery.

Trade Update with Ambassador Lighthizer

After the successes of tax reform and regulatory reform, balancing our trade agreements is the next step in keeping our economy competitive. President Trump and Ambassador Lighthizer have made tremendous progress renegotiating outdated trade agreements to put American workers on a level playing field. Traveling through the district last week, I heard from South Carolina farmers who recognize the importance of updating our trade agreements and support the President, but are worried about how disruption with China will impact their business. I brought their concerns directly to Ambassador Lighthizer at a Ways and Means hearing this week.

Watch the below video to hear my full conversation with Ambassador Lighthizer.

Infrastructure Investment Meeting with Secretary Hall

It was great having Secretary Christy Hall and her team in D.C. this week! We discussed progress on I-73 and other infrastructure priorities that will create opportunities for South Carolinians. I will continue to work at the federal level to deliver a comprehensive plan to rebuild our nation's infrastructure and make an investment in economic opportunity for generations to come.

Our Manufacturing Boom

Thanks to tax reform and regulatory reform we are experiencing a resurgence in American manufacturing! Since President Trump took office, over 500,000 manufacturing jobs have been created and manufacturing optimism reached an all-time high last year. These policies are working across the country and in South Carolina. Just this week, Horry County's Bonk Fit Promo announced they are adding 20 new manufacturing jobs through a $500,000 capital investment!

Last week, I toured Horry Georgetown Technical College and met with students who are gaining the skills to take on these new opportunities!
