Hurricane Dorian Response & Recovery

Hurricane Dorian was an unpredictable and strong storm. Thankfully Dorian did not cause the level of damage to Seventh District homes, critical infrastructure, or beaches that was originally forecasted as a possibility. I am thankful for the round the clock efforts of federal, state, and local officials to keep our community safe during the storm. Over 30 shelters were opened across the state which kept thousands of people out of harms way. The work of first responders and emergency officials helped people return safely to their homes and turn their power back on as quickly as possible. If your property did sustain damage from Hurricane Dorian, please report it using the SCEMD damage assessment tool in the SC Emergency Manager Mobile App.

In preparation for the storm, I visited the Emergency Operations Centers in Georgetown and Horry, and helped fill sandbags. I also visited the shelter at Conway High School to meet evacuees and thank first responders and volunteers for their selfless work!

Hurricane Dorian served as an important reminder that hurricane season is just beginning, and September is National Preparedness month. Make sure you are prepared for any scenario this hurricane season by following these tips from FEMA. District Work Period Wrap Up

Spending time in the district to hear directly from my constituents is the most important part of my job. My title is representative, and I can't do my job without hearing from you!

It was great to spend the month of August traveling around the Seventh District. We held multiple outreach events including Coffee with your Congressman events and a Veteran Symposium to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War. I also participated in a roundtable with Vice President Pence to discuss the urgency of passing the USMCA and met with multiple South Carolina businesses to get their perspective on updating our trade deals.
