Honoring Those Who Served

My team hosted a very special event to honor Vietnam Veterans this week. In commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Vietnam War we hosted a Veterans Symposium and had my friend and Vietnam Veteran, Lieutenant Clebe McClary share his story of bravery and heroism. We presented the veterans in attendance with Vietnam Veteran Lapel Pins to thank them for their service and sacrifice on behalf of a grateful nation. Thank you to all who have answered our country’s call to serve!

Flood Mitigation Funding Update

South Carolinians have faced three natural disasters in the last four years and we've been working tirelessly to improve our preparedness for future storms. At the federal level, I've been advocating for funding to repair damaged homes as well as funding for mitigation projects and resiliency efforts. This week, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced the release of mitigation funding for Hurricane Matthew and the 2015 Floods for South Carolina. This is important news for South Carolinians who are rebuilding from previous natural disasters while preparing for the possibility of future storms. We will continue to be persistent in ensuring our community has the resources to completely rebuild and implement proactive mitigation projects.

  Hearing From You
Thank you to everyone who came to our Coffee with your Congressman events this week! We had great conversations on a range of issues at events in Darlington, Cheraw, Blenheim, Lakeview, and Florence. My title is representative and I cannot do my job without hearing from you, so thank you to everyone who came out and shared their opinions with me!

Marion Housing Tour

This week I toured houses rebuilt after Hurricane Matthew with federal funding we helped secure. I regularly visit houses under construction and meet with constituents to hear about their experience recovering from devastating storms. It was great to have Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette with me to meet the happy families settling into their new homes and getting back on their feet. We’ve learned many lessons along the way, and we will continue to be there throughout the recovery process.

Building the SC07 Workforce with Walmart

This week I visited the Walmart Academy located at the Walmart in Florence. I am proud that the Florence store was selected as one of 200 stores in the entire country to join the academy program, which helps employees gain skills that will help them achieve their goals at Walmart and beyond. We had a productive conversation about strategies to pull people off of the sidelines of the economy and into the workforce. It was great to learn more about programs that are empowering people in the Seventh District to launch meaningful careers and achieve their goals!
