Honoring our Veterans

Honoring our Veterans

Happy Veterans Day to all who courageously served our nation. This day provides an opportunity to reflect on the many sacrifices our nation’s heroes have made to protect our rights and freedoms – sacrifices that cannot and should not be taken for granted. I am so very proud to have six veterans serving on our staff, Clebe McClary, Frank Bullock, Tom Keegan, Phillip Gaillard, Rodney Berry, and Sam Casey.  Each of them served their country in the armed forces and continue to serve their country by working for the people of the Seventh District. Thank you veterans, we salute you!

South Carolina Floodwater Commission Presents Report

On Friday, Chairman of the South Carolina Floodwater Commission Tom Mullikin presented the Commission’s report to Governor McMaster proposing recommendations to deal with?natural disaster mitigation and flooding in South Carolina. As the chair of the Commission’s Federal Funding Task Force, I was pleased to contribute to the key findings of this report.  In conjunction with the release of the report, the Commission hosted a successful community cleanup day in Horry County.  The day brought together volunteers from Conway, Bucksport, Socastee, and Loris clearing debris from waterways or removing limbs, trash, and accumulated sediment from drainage ditches and culverts.

Intern Spotlight

Our office is lucky to be served by great interns. This fall, our Washington, D.C. office was joined by intern Owen Downing.  Owen is currently a political science major at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Owen is particularly interested in international politics. During the spring semester, he will have the opportunity to study abroad in Belgium with the EU Parliament. Outside of politics, he enjoys fishing and running.

Internships are open to any college or higher education student. If you or someone you know would be a good candidate for one of my internships, please visit my website for more information and to apply. We accept interns on a rolling basis for the spring, summer, and fall semesters.
