Defending Rural Jobs

Vote Notes: Federally Mandated Minimum Wage Will Cost Jobs

Rather than working across the aisle to build on the economic successes of tax reform and regulatory reform, House Democrats advanced the "Raise the Wage Act," which institutes a $15 dollar minimum wage. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimated that this bill would eliminate up to 3.7 million jobs and result in a $9 billion decrease in family income.

This bill continues the assault on rural America we've seen from the left, and would be devastating for South Carolina. A federally mandated minimum wage will disproportionately hurt small businesses, low-income workers, and rural areas.

Instead of artificially raising incomes and expanding the role of government in people's lives, we should work on policies that will continue our current economic boom and create opportunity for hardworking Americans!

SC Business Council

I joined the South Carolina Business Council this week to provide a legislative update and discuss policy priorities that will benefit our business community- especially the USMCA! Thanks to tax reform and regulatory reform both our national and sate economy are taking off, but passing trade reform will solidify this economic growth for the foreseeable future.

I will continue to advance policies that will stimulate our economy and support South Carolina job creators!

Stopping Robocalls

Regardless of political affiliation, pretty much everyone can agree that the growing nuisance of robocalls must be stopped. It’s ridiculous that so many of my constituents receive multiple robocalls a day- we need to reclaim our phones.

That’s why I cosponsored the bipartisan Stopping Bad Robocalls Act, which requires phone carriers to authenticate the origin of phone calls at no additional cost to their customers. We are expecting a floor vote on this legislation as soon as next week!
