Update: Trade Negotiations

After months of negotiations, President Trump announced that the U.S. and Mexico have agreed to enter a new trade deal to replace NAFTA, called the U.S. Mexico Trade Agreement. The agreement with Mexico is an important step forward in renegotiating fair trade deals. Other countries will not easily abandon their long-held advantages over American workers, and the Administration has been successful in bringing our trading partners to the negotiating table. President Trump’s approach to rebalancing our trade deals is working, and I will continue to support the Administration as they pursue fair trade agreements that level the playing field for American workers and industries. I look forward to further reviewing the details of this agreement and will continue to seek input from businesses and farmers in the Seventh District throughout this process.

Restaurant Roundtable

Last week, I had the opportunity to sit down with Grand Strand restaurant owners to discuss issues affecting local businesses including tax reform, immigration, and health care. It is so important to receive input from local employers about federal policies that impact their businesses. I will bring their useful information and insight back to Washington!

The Good News Just Keeps Coming

The economic stagnation of the Obama Administration is over. President Trump and the Republican Congress are truly restoring American opportunity!

Protecting Community Banks

I had the opportunity to meet with the Independent Banks of South Carolina. Small banks help grow our economy and create opportunities by providing access to credit for American families and job-creating small businesses. We had a productive discussion about federal policies that impact community banks and their customers, such as the Economic Growth, Regulatory Relief, and Consumer Protection Act that was just signed into law by President Trump. This legislation eases heavy handed Dodd-Frank regulations, allowing community banks to focus on serving their customers instead of spending resources on compliance and paperwork. I will continue to work on rolling back bureaucratic overreaches that have hindered economic growth and hurt American small businesses, consumers, and families.
