Safer Communities, Stronger America

The opioid crisis has ravaged communities across the country and in South Carolina. This epidemic claims over 100 American lives every day, killing more people than traffic accidents. In Congress, we've passed legislation to spread awareness and improve treatment and recovery initiatives- but this battle can't be fought from Washington alone. We need coordinated engagement from local law enforcement, lawmakers, medical professionals, and members of the community to end this scourge.

Yesterday was National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, a semiannual event that provides a safe, convenient, and responsible way to dispose of excess prescription drugs. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness of the opioid crisis and to educate our friends, family members, and neighbors about the potential for abuse of medications. These events have proven to be an effective way to ensure prescription drugs stay out of the wrong hands. If you missed yesterday's take back event but still have excess prescriptions you'd like to dispose of, you can find a location to safely dispose of them here.

Beach Renourishment Update

I will continue to check in on their progress and keep you updated on this important project!

Building Our Workforce

With more jobs available than those seeking employment across the country, we need to bring people from the sidelines of the economy into the workforce. I am partnering with technical colleges and educators in our area to help connect students with available opportunities that will enable them to pursue high-skilled careers. At the federal level, I am working to advance policies that will support this mission.

I recently introduced legislation with a bipartisan group of my colleagues to make the Work Opportunity Tax Credit permanent. This will incentivize employers to hire and retain people who have been struggling to find long-term, meaningful employment opportunities and contribute to our economy!

Strong Start

The Trump economy continues to blow past expectations. The economy grew 3.2% in the first quarter of 2019, the highest Q1 GDP growth since 2015. Our record economic expansion is continuing to create opportunities and lift people up across the country!
