See You This Week

Praying for Parkland

I am heartbroken by this week's events in Parkland, Florida. Our schools should be a place of learning, where every student feels safe. I have always supported background checks to keep weapons out of the hands of criminals and the mentally ill. This type of violence has no place in our society and my heart goes out to the students and families that were impacted by this tragedy.

Are You Free for Coffee?

As your Representative, the most important part of my job is hearing from you! This week, I will be hosting multiple Coffee with Your Congressman events to meet with residents of the Seventh District of South Carolina. We will discuss upcoming legislation and current events affecting the nation, state and district. This week I'll be in Cheraw, Bennettsville, Dillon, Marion, and Murrells Inlet. Specific times and locations are on my website. The coffee is on me, so I hope you'll come on out!

Next Up: Infrastructure

This week, I joined Fox Business to talk about President Trump's infrastructure plan and how we can get federal funding for I-73. Infrastructure creates opportunity, and I'm encouraged that President Trump has made rebuilding our national infrastructure a priority. We've already seen how the combination of tax reform and deregulation are strengthening our economy. Now, the Administration and Congress must work together to check a comprehensive infrastructure package off the list!

Read My Op-Ed

I-73 will have a transformative effect on South Carolina's economy, bringing jobs and opportunity to areas that need it most. Unfortunately, some groups have put their misguided interests above the needs of our district. Why does a group that claims to represent environmental interests object to a project that protects nearly 5,000 acres of land — or 14 acres for every one acre it impacts? Read my op-ed exposing the Coastal Conservation League and Southern Environmental Law Center for what they really are - obstructionists who have been robbing South Carolinians of opportunities and riding off into the sunset.

Vote Notes: H. Res. 129

Did you know that there are over 82,000 American service members that are still Missing in Action? I proudly voted yes on H. Res. 129, a resolution that calls for a full and intensified accounting of all American service members that are MIA. The bipartisan resolution passed unanimously. We must always put our full support behind those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
