Happy Easter

Happy Easter

As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him. But go, tell his disciples and Peter, He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you." -Mark 16:5-6

From my family to yours, we wish you a joyful and blessed Easter!
I would also like to wish a Happy Passover to all of those who celebrate!

Opportunity Zones

Under the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, there are new provisions that create areas called "opportunity zones," which use tax incentives to encourage long-term investment in low-income communities across America. Congress gave states the primary role in directing this new tax benefit to the places that need it most by allowing the Governor to determine the location of opportunity zones.

I am excited that Governor McMaster designated 24 opportunity zones in the Seventh District - the second highest amount among all of South Carolina’s Congressional districts. This program will build on economic development projects already underway in the district, such as the Dillon Inland Port, and will incentivize job creation for people who have been searching for opportunity for far too long. Additionally, there are seven opportunity zones along the I-73 corridor, which will only increase the demand to push this long awaited infrastructure project across the finish line. These opportunity zones are perfectly designed to help areas that have been previously overlooked so that everybody has the chance to live the American Dream.

Transforming Local Economies

It is such a shame to drive through areas in our community and see boarded up storefronts and empty factory lots. But, friends, infrastructure is opportunity! The Dillon Inland Port, which serves as an extension of the Charleston Port, is already creating jobs and attracting new industries to our area and I-73 will build on this economic growth. I-73 will drive economic development through job creation and increased connectivity, and create opportunity in areas that need it most. This interstate will be an economic engine for the Pee Dee and the entire state!

I joined WMBF News to discuss how these transformative infrastructure projects will grow our local economies and spread prosperity throughout our district!

IRS Reform

With a new and improved tax code, we need a new and improved IRS. The IRS is still using technology that dates back to the 1960s, and it is time that they modernize their systems to better serve American taxpayers. I am excited that my Electronic Signatures Act was included in the Taxpayer First Act, the first major IRS reform package in decades. The Taxpayer First Act will make the IRS more customer-service oriented to improve the ease and efficiency of filing your taxes!

Jobless Claims At 45 Year Low

Data point after data point shows that our economy is booming. The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits just fell to the lowest level since 1973, showing continued strength in our labor market. This is what Republican policies - tax cuts, deregulation, and less government - look like in action!
