Hearing From You

One of the best parts of my job is traveling the district to visit and hear from all of you. I got to meet many new faces and see some familiar ones during my seven Coffee with Your Congressman events in the Pee Dee and the Grand Strand this week. We discussed current events and legislation as well as how I'm working for you in Congress. Sometimes we agreed and other times we didn't. Regardless, I truly enjoyed meeting and hearing from everyone! Thank you to those who took time out of their busy schedules to come to one of these events, it is an honor to represent you!

Here are the results:
  • National Security: 35%
  • Health Care :32%
  • Job Creation:10%
  • Debt and Deficit:12%
  • Infrastructure:11%
Thank you for participating!

A Better Deal

I spoke to Fox Business shortly after President Trump and EU President Jean-Claude Juncker announced that they are going to work together towards zero tariffs on industrial goods, and that the EU will import more U.S. soybeans. As President Trump said, it was a big day for free and fair trade! I don't like tariffs and I don't like subsidies, and President Trump doesn't either. President Trump is bringing other countries to the negotiating table and we are making progress towards fair trade agreements that will strengthen the American middle class and bolster our economy.

Spurring Tourism, Strengthening National Security

This week, Representative Mike Quigley (D-IL) and I introduced the Jobs Originating through Launching Travel (JOLT) Act, a bipartisan effort to increase national security, reform outdated visa laws, spur tourism and create jobs. The JOLT Act modernizes the Visa Waiver Program, which facilitates streamlined travel into the United States for pre-approved travelers from member countries. This will support the U.S. travel industry, create American jobs, and bring more tourism dollars to South Carolina- all while bolstering our homeland security and counterterrorism efforts.

The Gift of Life

Organ donations give recipients who have been suffering from life-threatening illnesses a second chance. Even though organ donations are increasing, transplant waiting lists are growing at a much faster rate. I introduced the National Organ Transplant Act Amendments to increase organ donations and ensure people living in rural areas have access to transplants. I spoke to WPDE about how this legislation will impact South Carolinians and save lives across the country.
