Hearing on Drug Prices
On Thursday, the Committee on Ways and Means held a hearing concerning lowering drug prices, reducing out-of-pocket cost, and improving Medicare benefits in the U.S. health system. This is an important issue as prescription drug prices have skyrocketed. I have sent letters to the Commissioners of the Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission in the past regarding this sharp increase. It will take bi-partisan legislation to address this issue. You can watch my entire questioning at this link.
Censure of Representative Schiff
This week, I cosponsored H. Res. 604 which censures and condemns Representative Adam Schiff of California for his misconduct. The Democrats have continually attacked President Trump since he took office. On September 26th, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Schiff read a false transcript of a conversation between President Trump and President Zelensky of the Ukraine. In cosponsoring this legislation, I am working to hold Members of Congress accountable for lying to the American people.
This past Tuesday, Congressman Brad Schneider of Illinois and I participated in the American Federation of Hospitals’ fireside chat. I enjoyed the bipartisan discussion on healthcare, surprise billing, and prescription drugs. The rapidly escalating prices of prescription drugs and surprise billings have affected so many in our community and throughout our nation. These are issues that we must work together to solve for the benefit of the American people.
Sadly, we lost a colleague this week. Representative Elijah Cummings served the people of Baltimore for more than two decades. He made an impact on the lives of not only those in his district, but throughout the country. He was a true public servant and civil rights activist. He will be greatly missed and I ask everyone to keep his family in you thoughts and prayers.
