Law Enforcement Appreciation

It was an honor to attend the Marion County and Dillon County law enforcement appreciation dinner. We had a moment of silence in memory of Sergeant Carraway and prayed for the entire Florence Police Department together. I also thanked them for their life saving work during Hurricane Florence- it was a testament to what they wake up ready to do for us every single day. This was just a small way to say thank you and show our support for our brave men and women in uniform.

Creating Opportunity Through Infrastructure Investment

Improving and expanding infrastructure in South Carolina is one of my top priorities, which is why I helped create the National Advisory Committee on Travel and Tourism Infrastructure (NACTTI). The purpose of this committee is to provide information and recommendations to the Secretary of Transportation on critical infrastructure projects that will facilitate expedient travel, increase tourism, and create opportunity and economic development. We held a NACTII meeting this week to discuss how I-73 will meet all three of these requirements! I showed them the awful traffic congestion on Highway 501 and explained how I-73 will create unprecedented opportunity in the Pee Dee. I look forward to continued work with NACTII to create opportunity through infrastructure investment in South Carolina and throughout the country.

Beach Renourishment Progress

Ensuring the prosperity of our beaches is critical to growing our tourism economy and I am proud that my office was able to secure over $80 million dollars for this vital project. This week, I met with members of the Army Corps of Engineers to check on the progress of beachfront renourishment and learn more about the process.

Preparing our Workforce

I had a productive meeting with Florence Darlington Technical College President Ed Bethea this week. FDTC offers specialized training that enables people to get high-paying, skills-based jobs upon graduating. Getting people off of the sidelines of the economy and into the workforce is one of my top priorities and I look forward to working with President Bethea to bridge the skills gap and prepare the Seventh District workforce for new opportunity!
