It was exciting to announce two federal grants for the Pee Dee this week. Darlington is receiving a $1.2 million grant to make wastewater system infrastructure upgrades needed to support local business development efforts. Florence is receiving a $2.4 million grant to make roadway, water and wastewater infrastructure improvements to help protect local businesses from the impact of natural disasters and attract new businesses. The grant is expected to help create 170 jobs and generate $35 million in private investment.
I will continue to advocate for Seventh District priorities at the federal level. If you are interested in learning about federal grant opportunities, visit the Grants page on my website.
Rush to Impeachment
I was disappointed but not surprised when Democrats rushed into the impeachment process this week based on the unverified, second-hand whistleblower account. The transcript of the phone call between President Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart revealed there was no "quid pro quo" that Democrats were desperately hoping to find. Their rush to impeachment without gathering all of the facts is reckless and disturbing.
Democrats have tried and failed to relitigate the 2016 election since the day President Trump was sworn into office. While they continue their political attacks, my focus will remain on improving the lives of Americans and South Carolinians.
I had the opportunity to meet with the Carolinas Independent Automobile Dealers Association (CIADA) while they were in DC this week. There are over 5,000 independent auto dealers in South Carolina, and we had a great discussion about policies that impact their small businesses. I will continue advocating for policies that allow South Carolina small businesses to create jobs and boost our economy!
Japan Trade Deal
Outdated trade agreements are holding the American economy back. As a member of the Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade, I support President Trump's bold action to update our trade agreements and level the playing field for American workers. This week, President Trump and his team secured a trade deal with Japan that will open up new markets to $7 billion in U.S. agriculture products and set new digital trade rules. This is great news for South Carolina workers and farmers! I will continue to work with the Trump Administration to update our trade agreements and unleash our economy's full potential.
