Community Floodwater Workshop
Our team hosted two flood recovery and hurricane preparedness workshops this week- one with local officials and administrators and one with community members. We brought in representatives from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, South Carolina Floodwater Commission, South Carolina Disaster Recovery Office, and South Carolina Emergency Management Division to answer their questions about disaster relief and mitigation.
After suffering multiple disasters in the last few years, South Carolinians have questions and concerns about the disaster relief process and this was an opportunity for them to ask questions and give their input. We had productive conversations and I hope everyone left with answers to their questions and a better understanding of storm recovery.
Thank you to everyone who attended and we will keep fighting for our community through the disaster relief process!
Supporting our Troops with Zephyr International
We had the opportunity to tour Zephyr International in Conway this week. They manufacture products that support our men and women in uniform, specifically US service members operating helicopter rescue missions around the globe. Michael and Elizabeth Mitchell built this business from the ground up. It started with just the two of them, and now Zephyr International plays a significant role in our national defense and creates South Carolina jobs!!
Expanding Rural Broadband
We had a great meeting with Horry Telephone Cooperative this week to discuss expanding rural broadband in our area. Increasing connectivity in the Seventh District will attract businesses, create jobs, and bring new opportunities! I am so appreciative of the HTC employees working hard to make this a reality! for students, employees, and businesses in the Seventh District.
