Feb 09 2020
On Tuesday, I had the honor of attending President Trump’s State of the Union address with Investigator Sarah Miller of the Florence Sheriff’s Department. The President’s message of optimism and accomplishments truly is something to celebrate. Our economy has reached a record high and opportunities for American Workers are endless. While Speaker Pelosi’s actions showcased her childish behavior, President Trump and House Republicans remained strong and unified in their message. With better trade deals, strength in national security, and a fairer tax code, I expect our nation’s economy will continue to improve in 2020. I support the President’s call to pass bipartisan legislation. We must work together in order to keep America the Land of Opportunity.
The Paper and Packaging Caucus hosted an event in Washington D.C. this week. Paper is incredibly important to our community. We have four paper mills in our district. These mills focus on safety and environmental sustainability in all practices. It was great to have so many workers from our district in Washington and hear to how I can best represent them. Trade deals like USMCA will continue to ensure that we are able to export more American goods and fewer American jobs.
Impeach Finally Ends
The Senate voted to acquit President Trump and finally end the impeachment process this week. For the past five months, Democrats have wasted American tax dollars and time in another attempt to overturn the 2016 election. Meanwhile, much needed legislation on infrastructure, solutions to the rising prices of prescription drugs, and national security issues have been forgotten. These are issues with bipartisan solutions that have been postponed for another Democrat-led investigation. Congress can now return to work on improving the lives of hardworking American citizens.
2020 Congressional Art Competition
Members of the U.S. House of Representatives sponsor a nation-wide high school art competition each spring. The Congressional Art Competition provides an opportunity to recognize and encourage artistic talent. All high school students in our district can participate. The winning piece will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year and the artist will receive round-trip airfare to attend the national winners’ reception in Washington D.C. A runner-up from the Grand Strand and Pee Dee regions will have their artwork displayed in our regional offices for one year. For more information and the deadline to apply click the link below.
