America Dines Out

Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending and speaking at the Defend the Police Rally in North Myrtle Beach. I let them know how much we appreciate their efforts on a daily basis in maintaining the stability of our communities. They all put themselves on the frontline of danger for us to be safe.

And let me just say, the idea to defund the police is completely absurd. One of the primary functions of government is adequate public safety. We need our heroes in blue, now more than ever. We cannot allow the actions of the 1% bad officers to taint the actions of the 99% that put their lives on the line every day,

Thank you, Law Enforcement Officers, for maintaining a safe and beautiful community so we can sleep peacefully in our beds at night. Despite the risk involved in carrying out your job, you continue to discharge your duties effectively and efficiently without fear. Stay strong and safe!

America Dines Out Act

Recently I introduced the America Dines Out Act. This legislation, modeled after a popular measure in England, will create a mechanism in the Treasury that will reimburse restaurants for 50% of diners’ meals.

The coronavirus pandemic is impacting every American. As we continue to safely reopen, we have to help businesses rebuild. The America Dines Out Act will help move us toward a quick economic recovery.

My district contains the Grand Strand and the Pee Dee which is home to over 1,800 restaurants. These business owners were forced to close their doors, and the America Dines Out Act will help them reopen.

The America Dines Out Act will support businesses through their reopening. Here’s how:

Within two weeks of enactment, the bill directs the Treasury to create a mechanism to reimburse restaurants for 50% of a diners’ meals. The limitations on the program are:

  1. The 50% discount is provided up to $12 per diner per day.
  2. The discount only applies to food and non-alcoholic beverages.
  3. The discount only applies if the customer dines in the restaurant.
  4. The discount only applies on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

 Restaurants would submit for reimbursement.

Veterans of Foreign Wars

This week we celebrated  National Veterans of Foreign Wars Day. This day provides an opportunity to reflect on the many sacrifices our nation’s heroes have made to protect our rights and freedoms – sacrifices that cannot and should not be taken for granted.  Thank you for your service.
