This week, I hosted four coffees throughout the District. Thank you to everyone who came out this week in Marion, Marlboro, Chesterfield, and Darlington. It’s an honor to represent you!
Thanking the Farmers to Families Food Box Program Partners
I visited the Marion County Youth Day Organization, the Marion County Coordinating Council’s Creating Healthy Food Environments, and the Marion County Branch NAACP on Thursday to thank the groups for their participation in the USDA's Farmers to Families Food Box program. These groups will distribute healthy foods to those in need in Marion County as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
My office was happy to help these organizations participate in the federal program and secure 2,000 boxes of food. This project, and those who participate in it, are proof that South Carolinians are caring, helpful, and resilient people!
Touring the Myrtle Beach VA Outpatient Clinic
Wednesday it was wonderful to see the newly built Myrtle Beach VA Outpatient Clinic. I know this clinic will serve and honor our Veterans with the best care possible.
The new Myrtle Beach VA Outpatient Clinic opened in April 2021 at 1800 Airpark Drive and expanded the services available to Veterans in the area. The clinic provides services to Veterans in Georgetown, Horry and surrounding counties. The state-of-the-art, 84,000 square feet building provides primary care, mental health and specialty services. The clinic features more than 200 treatment rooms, an optical shop, prosthetic services, a mobile MRI and more. Thank you to Dr. Blasy and his team for showing me around!
Protecting the American Taxpayer
Thank you to The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste for awarding me a perfect score for my voting record on protecting taxpayers. As a former tax attorney and CPA, I will always fight to eliminate wasteful government spending and put the American taxpayer first.
South Carolina is in Phase 2 of COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution. I'm pleased to see all South Carolinians aged 16+ are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine in Phase 2 and can schedule appointments. Currently, Pfizer is the only vaccine available to those aged 16-18. Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson are all available to those aged 18 and older. The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) lifted the pause on the administration of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine on April 23, 2021.
I encourage everyone eligible to find a vaccine location near them to schedule an appointment. Learn more here.
