Cosponsoring Return to Work Bonus Legislation
In order to help local businesses rebuild their workforce quickly, I introduced the Reopening America by Supporting Workers and Businesses Act of 2021 along with fellow members of the House Committee on Ways and Means. The bill turns enhanced unemployment benefits into a back-to-work bonus that will provide a bump to workers and help accelerate our economic recovery.
Job openings are at a record high, yet businesses are struggling to recruit employees. I know this is the case in the 7th District. Businesses shouldn’t be competing with unemployment benefits in order to get employees working again. I’m proud to cosponsor this legislation which will allow a bonus to be provided to unemployed workers upon accepting a job offer. This will encourage Americans to get back to work quickly, help businesses recover, and get the economy moving again.

Vietnam Veterans Day Celebration
This week, my staff attended a Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans celebration ceremony honoring veterans at Anderson Oaks in Conway. The Carolina Forest High School ROTC Color Guard participated in the ceremony and their drill team gave a meaningful presentation.
We celebrated Vietnam War Veterans Day on March 29 to honor all who served and sacrificed in Vietnam. Every day, I’m thankful for each and every one of our Nation’s veterans. Thank you for your service, veterans!
This week, I was pleased to see South Carolina moved to Phase 2 in COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution. Now, All South Carolinians aged 16+ are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine in Phase 2 and can begin scheduling appointments. Currently, Pfizer is the only vaccine available to those aged 16-18. All three vaccines—Pfizer, Moderna and Janssen—are available to those aged 18 and older.
This is a positive step towards South Carolina returning to a state of normal. I encourage everyone eligible to find a vaccine location near them to schedule an appointment. Learn more here.
