Small Business Week
Our district is home to almost 500 hotels and over 1,800 restaurants.
I introduced the Healthy Workplace Tax Credit to support businesses as they reopen by incentivizing them to take extra precautions to protect the health of patrons and employees. I also co-sponsored Rep. Kevin Brady’s Reopening America by Supporting Workers and Businesses Act of 2020 that will encourage the workforce to return to work and help small businesses rebuild by turning unemployment benefits into a back-to-work bonus that will provide a perk to workers and help move toward a quick economic recovery.
Small businesses are America's economic engine and I encourage you to honor them this week with your support. To all of our small business entrepreneurs in the 7th District, thank you for your hard work and commitment to your community!
Dillon Inland Port Has Best Month Ever
Dillon Inland Port has helped renew opportunity to those who had been left behind. I am so proud of all that we have accomplished since 2016.
The economic downturn that began in 2008 was the worst our country experienced since the Great Depression.
Under the Obama/Biden Administration, harmful regulations were enacted and overreaching laws such as the Dodd-Frank Act were passed. These hindered businesses, cost jobs and wages, and slowed our economy.
Republican policies that were put into place prior to the pandemic are paving the way back to a booming economy.
Republicans and President Trump are committed to rebuilding the economy, restoring our way of life, and renewing opportunity for all.
Letter to Secretary DeVos
Senator Lindsey Graham, Congressmen Joe Wilson, Jeff Duncan, Ralph Norman, and William Timmons, and I sent a letter to Education Secretary Betsy DeVos to ask for testing waivers.
"We already know that COVID-19 has caused a disruption in student learning, and instead of using valuable time to reaffirm that fact with a test, we should be using that time to address student needs through instruction.”
More details on the letter here.
New Solar Power Facility
Timmonsville is going to be the site of a $20 million solar power facility!
Energy independence is important to the coast of South Carolina...we want more clean energy choices, not less. It is a fact that more competition and choice in energy helps families save money on their power bills while strengthening our national security.
An increase in energy jobs would move the economy in the right direction.
